Civilian Police Academy

Beginning Thursday, November 2, 2023 and continuing for the next 10 consecutive weeks, the Winthrop Police Department will be offering its Civilian Police Academy to Winthrop residents age 18 and over.

Winthrop Officers will instruct classes on subjects such as domestic violence, police exploring, motor vehicle law, patrol procedures, accidents, firearms, critical incidents, implicit bias, gangs, juveniles and narcotic enforcement, prevention, and treatment, and many other topics relevant to police work. The academy will also include a police
ride-along.

This class experience is designed to bring citizens into the station and give them a clear picture of what it’s like to be a Winthrop Police Officer. Citizens will learn a great deal about all aspects of police work and leave with a true representation of life as a police officer.

Classes will be held on Thursday nights from 6:30pm to 9:00pm for 10 weeks starting on Thursday, November 2, 2023.
